Michigan sounds more open to transfers

Charles Matthews was probably the best transfer that John Beilein brought in during his time at Michigan basketball and while some argue the Wolverines should stay out of the transfer market, teams like Texas Tech and many others have proved last season that’s not necessarily true.

When new assistant coach Phil Martelli spoke last week on a Podcast Brotherly Love, he said that Michigan would be active in the transfer market and will also be looking to add players for next season (Via UMHoops) ($).

“We’re going to continue to pursue the transfer market to add players to this roster,” Martelli said in the interview. And while it makes sense, it should alleviate some concerns about next season.

Obviously, there isn’t a ton of options left, but there are still players on the transfer market, both players available for next season and in 2020. D.J. Williams, a grad transfer from George Washington is someone I have suggested as a fit, but there has been little chatter about transfers other than UM expressing interest in Anthony Mathis and Seventh Woods.

Both players went elsewhere. Yet, either with Franz Wagner or some type of graduate transfer, you have to believe Martelli and Howard will do their best to add an experienced scorer.
