Michigan Football: 3 reasons for confidence against Michigan State
Michigan has superior talent
Michigan football will always have the talent advantage when it comes to Michigan State and over the last few years, it has only been growing.
UM lost guys like Rashan Gary, Chase Winovich, Devin Bush, David Long and Karan Higdon to the draft, but it has the top recruiting class in the Big Ten coming in and five-star freshman Daxton Hill, as well as four-star running back Zach Charbonnet, both among the best at their positions.
The Spartans have ranked 30th and 31st the past two years recruiting and have landed a total of one four-star talent offensively. That’s tight end Trenton Gillison who redshirted last year.
The Wolverines return four of their five starters on the offensive line and all earned some kind of All-Big Ten honors. The top three wideouts are back and of course, Patterson. The defense lost some stars but has more depth than ever. The secondary is still loaded with Lavert Hill and Josh Metellus and the defensive line returns sack leader Josh Uche, along with Kwity Paye.
Dantonio has found a way to win with less before and maybe he can pull off another miracle in 2019, somehow winning again in Ann Arbor when his team has no business doing so.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Dantonio did it again, but really, outside of his record, what other hope is there for Michigan State? In terms of personnel, Michigan has the edge just mostly across the board, so it’s hard to see where all the confidence in Sparty world is coming from.
