Michigan basketball has an opening at shooting guard and here are some candidates to take the job next season.

Now that Michigan basketball‘s coaching dilemma has been resolved with ‘Fab Five’ member Juwan Howard taking the reigns from John Beilein (who left for the Cleveland Cavaliers gig), Michigan fans can finally take a short rest from the all the chaos.

For now.

From Howard’s perspective, there’s plenty of tasks that he has to complete.

While the former Miami Heat Assistant Coach has formulated his coaching staff, he still has to recruit for the remaining three scholarship spots left by Jordan Poole, Ignas Brazdeikis, and Charles Matthews, establish his culture and philosophy for his players but also create decide on his starting five.

It’s fair to assume that seniors Zavier Simpson and Jon Teske will repeat their roles as the starting point guard and center, respectively, and that Isaiah Livers will be back into the fold (after starting in his freshman year and then came off the bench in his second year). Due to the lack of depth in the frontcourt, Colin Castleton and Brandon Johns Jr. look as if they will be battling for the ‘4’ spot, as Livers can play both the ‘3’ and the ‘4’.

That leaves one spot open, the shooting guard position.

The past two seasons for Michigan basketball (poor shot-selection aside), the shooting guard position has been something that Wolverine fans have worried very little about, with Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman being a very consistent player during his time in Ann Arbor, and also with Poole, who at times, looked like one of the premier players in the Big Ten.

Now that these players are now long gone, it’s time to find their replacement, with that being said, who will it be?
