Michigan Basketball: 5 recruits Juwan Howard should target in 2020
The 2020 recruiting class is going to be essential for new Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard and here are five guys that he should target.
One of the key reasons people expect Juwan Howard to be a success as the head coach of Michigan basketball is a projected ability to recruit.
According to Juwan and the rest of the Fab Five, the new head coach of Michigan basketball already had some recruiting experience, as he supposedly helped recruit Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson to join him in Ann Arbor.
Being a member of the Fab Five, which is still well known and playing 19 years in the NBA is going to help Howard on the recruiting trail. He has ties to Michigan and strong ties to Chicago, where there is a oodles of basketball talent.
In terms of the 2019 class, Howard has work to do as he tries to bring back Jalen Wilson, who asked for his release when John Beilein left for Cleveland. There are other guys like Franz Wagner or transfers such as Jaevin Cumberland and Tevin Mack, who just put his name in the transfer portal from Alabama.
Yet, the 2020 class is going to be critical to Howard’s success with Michigan basketball. Depending on how many players he is able to add for next year’s team, he could have as many as five scholarships.
After both Zavier Simpson and Jon Teske graduate, the team will be down to Isaiah Livers, and a number of four-star talents such as Brandon Johns, David DeJulius, Colin Castleton and Cole Bajema and others who have yet to prove a thing.
Howard should be able to cast a wider net in recruiting than Beilein, not only with his NBA ties but also his name recognition. He is also familiar with the AAU circuit because of his sons Jace and Jett Howard.
With that in mind, Howard needs a home run in 2020 and here are five guys he should target.
