The hiring of Juwan Howard as head coach is just the tip of the iceberg for Michigan basketball. Here’s all the other news you may have missed.

When John Beilein left for the NBA, he didn’t take his assistants with him, at least, not yet. What he did leave was a lot of young kids confused about their future and questioning their commitment to Michigan Basketball.

This isn’t abnormal, coaches leave all the time to take bigger or better jobs elsewhere and the promises they made to the budding prospects go unfulfilled. Juwan must go out and mend bridges quickly and bring the shocked talents of Jalen Wilson back to the maize and blue while assuring Cole Bajema and Zeb Jackson that their offers will be honored.

What Beilein also left was three assistant coaches who are scrambling to land on their feet anywhere they can. New head coaches don’t always come in and clean house but it’s rare they retain all the pieces to the puzzle.

For Luke Yaklich and Saddi Washington, head coaching aspirations might lead them astray which has already happened in one of their cases.

DeAndre Haynes was always a question mark for Howard as he knows he needs to bring in former collegiate head coaches as assistants to help guide him through everything from the recruiting process to play calling.

DeAndre was getting familiar with Beilein offenses and on occasion was calling the plays but he lack of experience, especially in Power Five programs, doesn’t exactly make him a perfect fit for the staff Juwan will need.
