Adrien Nunez will win the Sixth Man Award

What we didn’t see from sophomore guard Adrien Nunez last year, we will see this season.

In 2018-19, Nunez played a total of 40 minutes and shot 1-13, all of them from beyond the arc.

“I’m just trying to soak in everything defensively and offensively so right when I step in the gym in the summertime I already know what’s going on,” Nunez said. “Coming into this situation, I knew I wouldn’t be getting a lot of playing time my first year, so I’m not emotionally distraught, you know what I mean? I’m just trying to learn as much as I can so next year is as smooth as possible.”

Although his shot wasn’t where he wanted it and the stats don’t show it, Nunez is primed to be a force on Michigan’s offense this year, coming into a role much like Livers had when he won UM’s Sixth Man Award – coming off the bench and hitting some big threes.

If the recruiting cycle doesn’t go as planned and the Wolverines are unable to woo Jalen Wilson back to a commitment, Nunez might see more action than even he could expect in his second year with Michigan.

As the only true shooting guard with height, Nunez is currently competing with David DeJulius and Eli Brooks for the two spot with Zavier Simpson sitting at PG. Brandon Johns Jr. could sneak in at the three or four depending on where Isaiah Livers fits in Howard’s new offense. Jon Teske is sure to return at the five position and there is depth everywhere outside the two spot.

Look for Nunez to have a big – Sixth Man Award-winning – role during the 2019-20 season.
