Michigan Basketball: 3 Predictions for Juwan Howard’s his first season
Michigan will go dancing
What Howard does in the next few weeks is going to have a huge impact on next season. If he can put together a first-rate staff, that will help overcome the transition to college and help the Wolverines keep winning right away.
When it comes to the roster, certainly, it would be better with Jalen Wilson on it. If Howard could get him back in the fold, that would give the Wolverines even more talent. Yet, even without him, Michigan basketball should make the NCAA tournament for a fifth straight season.
Teske, Zavier Simpson and Isaiah Livers basically give Michigan three returning starters and a great foundation to build a really good defense. Guys like David DeJulius, Johns, Castleton, Eli Brooks and Adrien Nunez will need to step up, but each of them got better under Beilein last season and will be more ready to contribute.
There will be some bumps in the road during the first season. But Michigan should have enough talent and I think Howard is a good enough coach right now to keep the Wolverines winning games consistently.
That doesn’t mean Michigan is going to win the Big Ten next season. But a top-five finish feels well within reach and I fully expect 20 or more wins in year one.
