Howard is more qualified than people realize

Lots of Michigan fans have tried to compare Howard to Beilein or other elite coaches and that’s not fair. The Wolverines weren’t going to find any Beilein. He was a rare bird and the best chance for success was finding a different guy who can win in a different way.

Many have focused on Howard’s potential as a recruiter but he also has plenty of basketball chops to be excited about.

Howard was always known as a heady player and after 19 years in the NBA, plus six more as an assistant, his knowledge is going to be vast. He is also credited by Heat players as being essentially their defensive coordinator and over the years, Miami has been a very good defensive team.

Erik Spoelstra is viewed as a top mind in the NBA and I’d expect Howard to incorporate some of his stuff on offense too. Juwan also gets credit for helping develop Hassan Whiteside and other big guys, which is promising for guys like Jon Teske, Brandon Johns and Colin Castleton.
