Michigan Basketball: 3 reasons why Juwan Howard will succeed
Recruiting will not be a problem
When lawyers make arguments in court it’s generally based off of established case law, meaning one time a judge ruled in favor of an argument so they use that as the reasoning behind their argument.
Here’s my case law, Penny Hardaway.
As I said before, Penny brought in the No. 1 recruiting class including Michigan basketball top target Lester Quinones. If that’s not enough, Jeff Siedel from the Detroit Free Press who provided the quotes above, went on to say this.
"It’s his ability to say, ‘I know the NBA. I played in the league for 19 years. I coached in the league for six years. I’ve got LeBron James on speed dial. And I can help you get into the league.’"
Being able to count one of the best basketball players of all time as a friend is a huge plus for a college coach. Having that friend calling recruits on your behave ensures you won’t have to leave your office to pull in top five recruiting classes year after year.
What recruit in their right mind wouldn’t commit to playing for the Wolverines after Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson show up to their house to shoot hoops for a few hours a week?
In fact, Howard didn’t have lift a finger to make waves on the recruiting trail, all he needed was Michigan to make the announcement. Since he was hired, Jalen Wilson is already speaking out.
And the No. 23 player of the 2020 class chimed in on the matter.
"2020 5-star guard Nimari Burnett says he knows Juwan Howard “very well.” Both are Chicago natives. Burnett met him when he was around 9 or 10 and has known Howard since; ran into him at the airport about a week ago and shared a brief conversation (not about Michigan)."
Michigan basketball might have lost Charles Matthew, Jordan Poole, and Ignas Brazdeikis to the NBA, but they gained three scholarships – three first-round recruit picks for Howard.
