Michigan basketball head coach John Beilein left the Wolverines to take a job with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but where does UM go from here?

At some point, the era of John Beilein as the head coach of the Michigan basketball program was going to come to an end. However, few expected it would end the way it did Monday morning.

After flirting with the Detroit Pistons last season, Beilein blindsided the entire Michigan basketball community by accepting a five-year deal to become the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Much like when Beilein took over as the head coach of the Wolverines, the Cavs are a mess right now. They won 19 games last season and have a 14 percent chance of getting the No. 1 overall pick, which is something Beilein has to be hoping for, otherwise, getting the talent to win in Cleveland will be tough.

But that’s why Dan Gilbert wanted Beilein. Look at his proven ability to develop players and help turn guys like Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., Nik Stauskas, Caris Levert, D.J. Wilson and Moritz Wagner into first-round picks, on top of all his other success stories.

While I hold no ill will towards coach Beilein and hope he has all the success in the world, this is still an extremely tough day to be a Michigan basketball fan. Discussing this news has been difficult and in an effort to understand this better, here are three key takeaways from Beilein going to the Cavs.
