Billy Donovan

Much like Stevens, Billy Donovan had a ton of success in college, coaching at Florida. He led the Gators to three Final Fours and two national championships.

He has also led the Thunder to four straight playoff appearances in the NBA, yet after losing in the first round each of the last three seasons, his time in Oklahoma City could be coming to an end.

Even if Oklahoma City doesn’t fire Donovan, the pressure is on to win there and if he doesn’t have more success in the postseason, which could be difficult due to roster constraints, he may be looking for an out, especially with only one year left on his deal.

There have been a number of coaches that went from the NBA back to college and had tremendous success. John Calipari and Rick Pitino are two great examples. If Donovan returned to the college game, he could do the same and also be the kind of elite coach that could keep Michigan contending for championships year in and year out.

All three of these guys will take a tremendous recruiting effort and a lot of money to get but they all are fits. Michigan basketball is an elite program and with one of these coaches, it could stay that way.

If not, the Wolverines will have to look at other options and hope they can find lightning in a bottle as they did with Beilein.
