Chris Beard

Chris Beard is another name that has been mentioned by just about everyone and why not? The Red Raiders knocked out Michigan in the Sweet 16 this season en route to the national title game before losing to Virginia.

Beard also coached the Red Raiders to the Elite 8 in 2018 and one thing that will make him appealing in his defensive prowess. The Red Raiders were the only team ranked ahead of Michigan basketball in the Kenpom defensive rankings and you could see why in the NCAA tournament.

Beard did just sign an extension with Texas Tech, but there is no question that Michigan could up the ante and offer a much bigger contract. The Red Raiders will never have the resources of Michigan and after just three years at Texas Tech, maybe Beard could be convinced to leave, especially with some of his top players departing such as lottery pick Jarret Culver.

But, trying to lure a coach away from a team that just came close to winning a national title won’t be easy, yet Michigan has to try.
