Michigan Basketball: 5 ways Wolverines can improve from within
Teske needs to become more effective in the post
Few people realize this, but when it comes to Michigan basketball, few players meant more this past season than big man Jon Teske.
When you look into the stats a little deeper, his impact was profound and his PER (efficiency rating) was 22.4. Simpson was in the 16’s.
As a full-time starter last season, Teske averaged 9.7 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. He shot 52 percent from the field and 29.9 percent from 3-point range, which was still a huge improvement.
When the 7-footer came to Michigan, it was hard to imagine him as a pick-and-pop shooter, but he developed into that last season and if he can be more efficient in that role, it would be a huge help.
However, the Wolverines also need him to improve as a post scorer. Often times, Teske had smaller players matched on him and he wasn’t confident enough to take advantage. That will need to change this season. If he can turn into a post threat Michigan can run the offense through, it should help generate a lot of open looks.
