Michigan football breaks the top 25 in almost every ranking, almost every year. Here’s where they rank this preseason according to the ‘experts’.

Michigan football is always ranked near the top and usually deservedly so. While they had a couple of bad weeks in the game against that team down south and then again against Florida in the bowl game, the Wolverines still remained in the top 25 in the final rankings.

In both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll, the maize and blue ended up at No. 14. With that final ranking, Michigan is the second highest ranked Big Ten Team – Ohio State finished third in both polls.

On the bright side, Ohio State lost their quarterback and their backup quarterback and are now left with an untested transfer in Justin Fields. It’s important to note; however, coming into college, Fields was the second highest ranked QB prospect in the county behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence.

Yet, their head coach Urban Meyer retired and this week CBS Sports had their crew of college football writers rank the 65 coaches in the Power Five conferences and included Notre Dame. Where did Ohio State’s new head coach Ryan Day rank? No. 45.

"Well, it seems Day’s 3-0 record as a head coach proved more to some of my fellow voters than others. Personally, I had Day at No. 62, solely due to the lack of a lengthy resume. He is undoubtedly stepping into a great spot, and — spoiler alert! — if other spots in our rankings are any indication, it could do wonders for his ranking in a hurry."

Everything is working in Michigan’s favor and the way-too-early preseason rankings appear to reflect it.
