Michigan Football: 8 headlines surrounding the Wolverines
Could Michigan secure the No.1 safety two years in a row?
Technically, no.
Jordan Morant – who was the nations No.1 safety – is leaning toward a Michigan football commitment.
As of today, Morant ranking dropped to seventh in the nation at the safety position but his highlight reel says otherwise.
The hit at the 13-second mark was itself five-star. But 247sports says Jordan is a four-star from Bergen Catholic in New Jersey. Standing at 5-foot-11-inches and weighing 212 pounds, Morant is ranked as the No.1 player from NJ and No. 143 nationally.
“We pretty much got to do everything,” Morant told 247Sports after his visit to Ann Arbor. “We got to be able to check out every football facility they had. We saw the weight room and all the outdoor and indoor facilities. We also saw the stadium which was just crazy because of how big it was and now I know why it’s called the Big House. I think another thing I think stood out was when we went to academics and how much they will help you out in your classes and how much support you’ll have in the academic area and it’s helpful to know besides football I’ll be getting a really good education.”
Steve Lorenz from 247Sports wrote an article in the Detroit Free Press and explained it’s not just the giant field or the expansive weight rooms that are drawing Morant to Michigan.
"One major factor in U-M’s favor is the recent hiring of defensive assistant Anthony Campanile. His connection to the Bergen Catholic program is deep, as the last two head coaches of the program have been his brothers, Nunzio and Vito, and Campanile is a former assistant there. Between he and safeties coach Chris Partridge, the Wolverines have two very visible New Jersey figures in charge of reeling Morant in."
While he’s not technically the No.1 safety in the nation, imagine Jordan playing opposite 2019 No.1 safety Daxton Hill who will be joining the squad shortly. Scary.
