First round

Devin Bush

Pick: 10

Devin Bush ran a 4.43 forty yard dash which was the second-best amongst linebackers in the 2019 combine and he exhibited his explosive power with a 40.5-inch verticle. The Steelers were so impressed by Bush that they traded up, giving away their 20th overall pick, their second round pick, and a 2020 third round pick to move up to the tenth spot for Devin.

Here’s what ESPN had to say about the pick and the trade.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers moved up in the draft to select Devin Bush, an athletic, sub-240-pound linebacker who has elite closing speed and toughness. The Michigan linebacker diagnoses quickly and finds the ball — he collected 194 career tackles, including 19.5 for loss and 10 sacks. The Broncos received the Steelers’ No. 20 pick and No. 52 pick in addition to Pittsburgh’s third-round selection in 2020, a source told ESPN’s Field Yates."

This is a win-win for both Devin and the Steelers as they get a versatile three-down linebacker and he gets to go to a historically exceptionally defensive centric team.

Bush will also help Pittsburgh demolish their AFC North rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, who they split games 1-1 in 2018. Bush gives the Steelers defense the speed they need to shut down Baltimore’s quarterback Lamar Jackson’s running ability.

Rashan Gary

Pick: 12

Just two spots after Bush was taken, Rashan Gary was selected by the Green Bay Packers. Although the Bleacher Report article didn’t exactly paint a picture of a perfect locker room atmosphere, Gary should fit in perfectly with the Packers.

If you were wondering why Rashan slipped all the way down to 12th when many were saying he should be a top five, you don’t need to look further than the superficial stat of sacks.

Gary had 10.5 sacks over his three years of battling it out for the Wolverines even though most of the time Gary was either injured or getting triple teamed.

Then there’s also the injury he sustained which will require surgery.

"Ian Rapoport tweeted: #Michigan DL Rashan Gary’s labrum tear has teams doing extra homework on his shoulder. Most believe he can put off surgery for a year."

Should the Packers and Gary choose to have the surgery this year and have him sit out until next season, Green Bay will be covered. They currently have veteran Mike Daniels and the newly acquired Za’Darius Smith who can fill in for Gary while he heals.

Either way its an excellent situation for all parties involved.

Since there were no Wolverines taken in the second round, we move onto the third.
