Running back

Heres a quick rundown of what happened to the guys who could be at the top of the depth chart for this season.

Chris Evans – the most likely starter – was cut from the team for an academic mistake and filed an appeal to get back to the team for one final season. There have been almost no updates from the athletic department on his status.

O’Maury Samuels – the four-star running back from New Mexico who would be a sophomore –   was dismissed from the team for a domestic violence incident and the charges were eventually dropped in court.

In a tweet, Samuels announced his transfer:

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the University of Michigan for giving me the opportunity to study and play football.I would also like to thank Coach Harbaugh for developing me as a player and making me a student of the game. I have decided to transfer from the University of Michigan to explorer other opportunities to continue my education and play college football. Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who has supported me through this time."

Moving on

Zach Charbonnet had surgery but is expected to play this fall which leaves us with an exciting but somewhat untested duo in Christian Turner and Tru Wilson.

Turner has been dealing with a hamstring injury allowing Wilson the majority of the snaps and the gigantic Ben VanSumeren – 6-foot-3-inch, 240 ish pounds – backing him up.

On a side note, apparently, Ben’s brother- and Michigan target – is the same size as Ben he’s in ninth grade.

The running back position is arguably going to be the most thrilling and important spot to watch this year but the defensive end position could be the most intense.
