The 6-foot-8 wing could slide right into Iggy’s old spot

One of the new faces we know that will be joining Michigan basketball next season is incoming freshman Jalen Wilson, a forward that ranks as a top-50 prospect and is No. 32 according to 247 sports.

Without the funky shot, Wilson reminds me a lot Zak Irvin, a wing/forward that can rebound, defend and shoot the heck out of the ball. Wilson was a 39-percent shooting during his high school days from deep and earlier this month went off for seven 3’s and 31 points in the BBB All-American game.

He’s a dynamic scorer and his ability to shoot from all different spots on the floor and not just beyond the arc will be huge. If Michigan didn’t add another player to its roster before next season, Wilson would be my bet to start along with Teske, Livers, Simpson and whoever fills the hole at shooting guard.

Wilson could potentially be that guy. He certainly could play on the wing but that would leave Michigan basketball short on ball handlers if Wilson, Livers and say someone like Brandon Johns was the four.

Anyways, that’s a discussion for another day but as you can see, Michigan has some nice in-house options to potentially replace Brazdeikis.

The Wolverines have a lot of different pieces and versatile players in Livers, Castleton, Johns and Wilson. Even David DeJulius will play much more in the backcourt and if there are rim protectors, he could get away with it.

It’s clear that Michigan needs more scoring with Iggy and Poole likely leaving, especially if UM wants to make another run at a Big Ten title. But the good news is, the Wolverines have Beilein and that counts for a heck of a lot, both on the court and on the recruiting trail.
