Michigan Football: 5 things to know about Wolverines 2019 season
The freshman phenoms
The spring ‘game’ was confined to a few plays and yet it gave us a brief look into the new schemes and what some of the new guys can contribute.
One of the unlikely early contributors is also the most exciting so far. ‘Little Mikey’ Sandristil is the epitome of the new slogan speed-in-space and he is getting plenty of praise for the hard work he’s putting in.
Coach Harbaugh has been especially high on the 5-foot-10-inch 179 pound frosh from Massachusetts.
"“He has a level of quickness, change of direction, speed that has been really eye-opening and really good for the team,” Harbaugh said. “But he’s also tough. He’s blocking. There’s probably three examples where you can really just see him second, third, fourth effort down the field, sometimes 20, 30, 40 yards downfield blocking for whoever does have the ball. If you don’t have the ball then you become a blocker.”"
Although injured, the California kid, Zach Charbonnet, is making an impression on the coaching staff and his fellow teammates.
Zach is “doing everything right” according to the Wolverines head coach. Harbaugh specifically mentioned what Zach is doing in lieu of practicing that has impressed him.
"“He’s doing everything he can. He started in a chair, he was lifting and doing all this sitting-down exercises, ropes he’d be sitting down in a chair doing. He’s doing everything he could possibly do.”"
While it’s nice to have those guys working so hard, it will be even more electrifying when the head of the 2019 recruiting class makes his way to Ann Arbor.
Daxton Hill is the 14th best player nationally and Michigan’s 8th highest commit ever according to 247sports.
The number one safety overall for the 2019 class will come to the Wolverines after putting up incredible stats at The Opening. Hill where he ran a 4.30 forty and a 4.22 shuttle. Ambry Thomas could have trouble backing up fastest guy on the field comment once Daxton arrives.
