Shea Patterson has done an incredible job leading Michigan Football and will be moving on after the end of the season, but the Patterson name will remain on a Wolverines jersey after Shea leaves.

Back in September, Shea Patterson‘s brother Nick announced that he will be coming to Michigan football to follow in his older brother’s footsteps – well not really.

While Nick Patterson will be playing for Michigan Football during the 2020 season, he won’t be competing at the quarterback position.

Nick is a 6-foot-3-inch 225-pound tight end who is finishing his career at San Antonio Christian.247sports has the younger Patterson listed as a three-star with a .8727 composite rating.

Nick Patteron’s rating may be a far cry from his brothers five-star, .9982 rating, but the big man from Texas will be a welcomed addition to the Wolverines.

And as for the low rating, Nick has been moving up pretty significantly since his first grades came out. In fact, when he announced he was coming to Michigan,  Nick was ranked 662nd in the nation, 20th at tight end and 98th in Texas.

247sports now has him at 513th in the nation, 16th at tight end and 66th in Texas.

Coming Home

Nick described his Ann Arbor visits and why he chose Michigan.

"“I’ve been to a lot of different places… a lot of different schools. Right when I walked through the door I felt like it was different,” Patterson told The Michigan Insider. “It felt like home. It felt like family. I like how my brother has gotten better over the past few months there. I like my relationship with Jim Harbaugh and Coach Dudek. It just felt right. I just felt super comfortable. Way more comfortable than when I’ve talked to other coaches and been on other visits. It just felt like home.”"

Nick’s dad, Sean Patterson Sr., described the moment his youngest son committed.

"“Yesterday was a great day. Seeing my older son Sean there, talking to Shea before the game, seeing Nick’s eyes light up, and then being able to sit with the parents and the recruits for Michigan football… I just kept having to pinch myself. Sitting down with Coach Harbaugh I didn’t know (Nick) was going to commit for sure because he is his own guy. But they just hit it off so well and Nick decided to go there. As a family we couldn’t be happier. He told Shea this afternoon and (Shea) couldn’t be happier for him. He’s a great student and he is going to the best place.”"

Fitting In

As we move into the new era of Michigan Football and watch as the players implement what offensive coordinator Josh Gattis calls speed-in-space, its good to know how versatile Patterson 2.0 is in football.

At San Antonio Christian, Nick has played both sides of the ball, and four positions on offense – tight end, wide receiver, slot, and h-back. Nick’s ability to adapt to each position will bode well for him considering coach Harbaugh and company are positionally fluid with their talent.
