Michigan Football: What key people are saying about Josh Gattis
Running backs coach Jay Harbaugh
Jim’s younger brother Jay Harbaugh has been prepping the running backs for the fall and had some interesting things to say about the new strategy.
"“We’re still a run-first team. The runs that we’re running aren’t much different. I think that the way that it’s presented to them, just from a learning standpoint, I think they take to it pretty well.”"
Jay is obviously excited his guys will still be getting the ball in Gattis’ RPO offense (run, pass, option) and that the offense maintains its roots as a run-first team.
Moreover, the younger Harbaugh mentioned how easy it was for his young players to adapt to the refurbished playbook.
"“When you talk about the transition of a guy like Ben VanSumeren from defense to offense or a guy that was maybe a 4th, 5th or 6th guy elevating up. Those guys were able to learn really quickly, faster than the last system. That’s one difference that I’ve seen that has benefitted them. Other thing is that there’s more involvement with screens and we’ve made more of an emphasis on that. Guys are taking to it and understanding the detail to it and all that. It’s overall been great but it’s tough to say, hey, this one thing is super different if that makes sense.”"
