Michigan Basketball: Grading the Wolverines 2018-19 season
Michigan basketball won 30 games during the 2018-19 season, yet the Wolverines didn’t hang any banners. Here are grades for the players and coaches.
The Final Four is this weekend and instead of preparing for it, Michigan basketball is looking back and trying to figure out why it couldn’t make it back.
During the first couple months of the season, it certainly looked like Michigan basketball had the pieces for another Final Four run or at least enough to win a Big Ten championship.
Unfortunately, despite being good enough to be Big Ten champions, Michigan didn’t win the Big Ten title and while UM is probably still good enough to be playing, for a lot of reasons, the Wolverines aren’t and now they get to sit and watch their rivals try to win a national championship.
The next step is looking to next season and trying to figure what pieces will return is a difficult task. Charles Matthews seems ready to try his hand in the NBA draft and both Jordan Poole and Ignas Brazdeikis could follow him.
All three players should declare for the draft without hiring an agent and if none of them are guaranteed to be among the top-40 players picked, they should return to UM. All three could use more development, especially on the offensive end and if any of them could develop a consistent jumper, their draft stock would be much better.
At any rate, those discussions will be for another day, but here is a final look at the 2018-19 season with grades for the offense, defense, coaches and players. Here we go.
