Michigan Football: 2020 recruit Noah Nelson announces visit

2020 Michigan football recruiting target has decided to make an official visit to Ann Arbor after a successful unofficial visit

Michigan football recruit Noah Nelson announced on his Twitter page yesterday that he will be making an official visit to Ann Arbor on April 12th.

While the measurements are not official, Nelson is listed as a 6’8″ 295lb beast from the state of Arizona. Does that remind you of anyone? Maybe the former Arizona big man Taylor Lewan?

While there is constant talent coming into Ann Arbor, several linemen will be making the decision to stay or go pro in the next few years.

Ben Bredeson and Michael Onwenu are returning as senior guards who will be leaving at the end of the season, opening up at least two spots on the line for 2020.

Center Cesar Ruiz and tackle Andrew Stueber are both juniors who should be leading the team when Nelson comes to campus, should he decide on the Wolverines over his other potential suitors.

Running Game

Michigan had its first 1,000-yard rusher since the quasi-quarterback/running back Denard Robinson did it back in 2012. Karan Higdon rushed for 1,178 yards for the maize and blue and he decided to forgo his senior season and declared for the NFL draft.

The dedication to the run was a clear sign the team was fed up with being pushed around in the trenches and a renewed emphasis on the offensive line.

Although, the typical Michigan offense will surely be turned on its head with new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis being handed the keys to the offense. Coach Gattis’ hashtag speed in space has taken the Twitter world by storm and I am sure it’s on the mind of Nelson.

“The speed in space is obviously trying to put the defense in conflict.” Coach Gattis explained, “We talk about speed in space, that’s just not only skill guys or getting our athletes out in space, that’s also getting our running backs out, trying to create open holes and putting the conflicts on defense from a run-pass conflict standpoint.”

Who is Noah Nelson?

The big man hails from Gilbert, Arizona where he attends Williams Field High School. His 247sports.com rating has him ranked at .8688 and he is listed as the number 13 player from Arizona and the 50th overall offensive tackle.

247sports also listed his colleges based off interest. Michigan, Oklahoma, and UCLA, are the only schools with a warm interest and Michigan is the only school where the young man has an official visit scheduled.

Unofficial Visit

Nelson did visit the school earlier this week and had some very exciting things to say about the Wolverines.

“I like the way Michigan sets everything up on their offensive line,” he said. “They have one coach who focuses on the tackles, another who focuses on the guards and another who focuses on the centers. Coach Warinner oversees all of it and uses his assistants to make it work. His attention to detail is crazy and was really, really surprising. I liked watching him coach.”

Noah was also pleased with the way he has been treated so far.

“I have spoken with Coach Warinner a ton and gotten to know him really well. I have also gotten to know (grad assistant) Coach Hendershot too. We talk on the phone once a week at this point. They have put a lot of time and effort into me and I appreciate it.”
