Michigan might have the best defense in America

There is no doubt that this Michigan basketball team is different from the last two that advanced to the Sweet 16, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not as good as the team that went to the title game a season ago.

This team just wins differently and it wins more with defense. Jon Teske is the perfect example. He doesn’t score the way Moritz Wagner did last season. However, he has 17 points and 20 rebounds in two NCAA tournament games and his defense inside has been incredible.

He didn’t technically block a shot against the Gators, but he affected any that were close to the bucket and that helped Michigan limit Florida to 34 percent shooting for the game and even below 30 percent in the second half.

This team isn’t an offensive juggernaut. But through two tournament games, they have allowed an average of 52 points per game and if the Wolverines continue to defend like that, they are going to keep winning. At the very least, they will be an extremely tough out.
