Michigan Football: 5 predictions for the Wolverines during spring ball
Ambry Thomas stands out among young DBs
One of the most hotly-contested positions on Michigan’s defense is going to be at corner, which has a starting job open after David Long left early for the NFL draft.
Michigan football still has Lavert Hill, who has proven himself to be one of the top corners in the Big Ten despite some struggles down the stretch. Beyond that, there is a lot of young talent, but very little proven experience.
Ambry Thomas is the most seasoned and last season, he was essentially the No. 4 corner. Against Rutgers, he intercepted a pass and acquitted himself well when he saw the field. On top of being the Wolverines return guy, Thomas is 6-foot and runs very well and more speed is exactly what the secondary needs.
Vincent Gray, Gemon Green, Benjamin St. Juste, Myles Sims, Sammy Faustin and a bunch of young guys are also gunning for playing time, along with incoming freshman Jalen Perry and possibly even Daxton Hill when he arrives this fall.
With Brandon Watson gone, the nickel job is also open but on the outside, I have a strong feeling that Thomas will lock down that role heading into the fall.
