Wilson will turn heads this spring

Call me crazy, but by the end of spring practice, Tru Wilson is still going to be right in the thick of the running back competition and he’s going to be a guy that keeps finding ways to be on the field.

I don’t know if Wilson will end up being the starter or not. My money is still on Christian Turner, but Michigan football is going to use a committee of running backs and Wilson is going to play a prominent role.

Last season, he ran the ball 62 times and averaged 5.9 yards per attempt. He also didn’t just rack up yards against weak competition in garbage time. In Big Ten play, he ran for at least 30 yards in five different games including seven carries for 32 yards against Ohio State.

Wilson also carried six times for 43 yards against Nebraska, eight times for 58 yards against Rutgers and six for 42 vs Indiana. On top of that, he’s the only real proven pass protector on the roster.

That alone will keep him on the field but his tough running inside will also keep him from getting passed over on the depth chart and while I think both Turner and Charbonnet will do well this spring, don’t be surprised if you keep hearing the name Tru Wilson.
