Michigan Basketball: 5 bold predictions for Wolverines this March
Michigan will get a No. 2 seed for NCAA tournament
Seeding isn’t a huge deal when it comes to the NCAA tournament, meaning that teams have proven they can overcome getting snubbed to make a run.
While the Wolverines were justified in getting a two seed last year, if Michigan wins the regular season crown and reaches the tournament championship, it should absolutely be a No. 1 seed.
Even before this weekend, the Wolverines have 13 wins over teams ranked in the top 56 of the NET rankings, which is essentially the new RPI rankings for the selection committee and four of those wins came on the road.
Michigan has a total of 18 wins over teams ranked in the top 100 of the NET rankings and not a single bad loss on its resume. They also beat North Carolina and Villanova during non-conference play, while also working their way to the top of the standings in one of the toughest conferences in America.
Whether Michigan or Michigan State gets it, someone from the Big Ten deserves a top seed in the field of 68 and it will be a shame if either squad is snubbed, which it looks like they will be.
