Running back is wide open
In terms of freshman that could make an immediate impact for Michigan football, maybe no player is in a better position to do that than four-star running back Zach Charbonnet.
There is a lot to like about Charbonnet, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound running back that the Wolverines brought in from California. He’s a guy that has routinely been praised by analysts and at one point, a Pac-12 assistant coach called Charbonnet the best running back in the country.
He certainly seems like Harbaugh’s best recruit at the position. He’s the fourth-ranked player at his position and No. 48 overall and with Chris Evans possibly not coming back due to academics, the running back job could boil down to Christian Turner, a freshman that played in only a few games last season and Charbonnet.
Tru Wilson will see snaps no matter who the starter is. He’s a tough pass blocker and runs with a purpose. However, he’s not talented enough to be anything but a role player. Unlike Dax Hill, who hasn’t enrolled early, Charbonnet has and when spring football rolls around, the battle between Turner and Charbonnet should be fascinating to watch.
