Michigan gets off to a fast start

There is no question that at times this season, Michigan basketball has been a little inconsistent with its effort. When Michigan has been focused and ready to go, it has played some great basketball.

However, in other games, the Wolverines have overlooked opponents and it has led to losses to ugly wins. Normally, I’d be worried about Nebraska and I do still think the Huskers have some pieces to challenge Michigan, but with it being senior night, I see Michigan being on point.

The big key for Michigan is going to be defense. When the Wolverines get stops, they can run and get out in transition. That leads to layups, 3-pointers and a lot of momentum. Michigan State shot 50 percent from the field and didn’t allow UM to ramp up its fast break.

Nebraska isn’t Michigan State and in truth, the Huskers have been terrible on the road. They are 1-7 away from home in the Big Ten and James Palmer, their leading scorer, is shooting 36 percent from the field on the season.  As a team, the Huskers are shooting 40 percent in conference play and 31 from three.

Making matters worse for Nebraska is the fact that it has scored just 65 points or more three times in 11 games (2-9). That’s a recipe for disaster and it doesn’t sound like a team ready to win in Ann Arbor.
