Michigan Football: 5 predictions for the Wolverines defense in 2019
Michigan needs more turnovers and in 2019, they will get them
One of the most overlooked aspects of the Michigan defense was the fact that the Wolverines struggled to create turnovers.
When the season was over, Michigan football forced just 18 turnovers in 13 games and that ranked 89th in the FBS last season. UM finished with just 11 interceptions and six fumble recoveries.
With Long and Lavert Hill, one would think the Wolverines would get more than 11 interceptions. Yet, Hill had just one, even though he did return it for a touchdown against Wisconsin. He’s going to come back and if he can get three or four interceptions next season, that would help.
With some experienced pass rushers and some new additions to the secondary like Hill and some other young guys that possess both speed and length, more interceptions should be on the way and just based on sheer luck, the Wolverines should force and recover more fumbles than they did in 2018, when turnovers, for whatever reason, were extremely scarce.
