Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from bad loss to Michigan State
Offense comes up short again
The issue has been following this team for the past month or two has been a sluggish offense and that reared its ugly head again Sunday.
Michigan State did a nice job of keeping the Wolverines out of the paint and that forced Michigan into a lot of one-on-one basketball, which led to 26 3-point attempts, many of which came with the shot clock running down and a defenders hand in their face.
The screen-and-roll offense yielded very little and once Michigan was able to seize the momentum in the second half, thanks to an 8-0 run that put them up six, their execution failed them.
Michigan State was tougher on defense and the fact that Michigan basketball got just 6-of-21 makes from Charles Matthews and Jordan Poole, two of its best offensive players was a telling reason for the loss.
The Spartans are a good defensive team, there is no question about that, but Michigan hasn’t been able to put together two good half’s offensively for a long time and if that doesn’t change, their postseason run will end much sooner than expected.
