Michigan Football: 3 questions the defense must answer in 2019
Michigan football was great on defense for almost all of the 2018 season, except when it mattered most. How can that be fixed going forward?
For the past few weeks, much of the focus surrounding Michigan football has been on recruiting, as the Wolverines put the finishing touches on the 2019 recruiting class this week and surged ahead with work on 2020 and beyond.
But now that we essentially know who is going to be joining the Michigan football program next season and who won’t be, it’s a good time to take a look at the Wolverines defense. Earlier in the offseason, we broke down the offense and looked at five questions facing that side of the ball.
Now, it’s time to take a look at the defense and some of the things that Michigan football needs to take care of that on side of the ball if the Wolverines want to have a chance at winning the Big Ten in 2019 and beating arch rival Ohio State.
While the defense dominated and was ranked No. 1 for a good chunk of the season, some things were exposed in the last two games against Florida and Ohio State when the Wolverines allowed over 100 points total and almost 90 just by the defense as the Wolverines allowed return touchdowns against both Ohio State and Florida.
Certainly, there will be some changes for the Wolverines, especially with losses like Rashan Gary, Devin Bush and Chase Winovich, however, UM still has Don Brown and here are three questions his defense must answer in 2019.
