Michigan football hasn’t been good enough on offense under Jim Harbaugh and here are five questions facing the Wolverines offense in 2019.

For some time, it was obvious that Michigan football was behind the times offensively and after two bad losses to end the 2018 season, head coach Jim Harbaugh agreed.

That’s why Harbaugh made the bold move of hiring former Alabama wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. Many close to the team didn’t believe that Harbaugh would make a big change on offense. But they were wrong.

When Gattis was rumored to be taking the offensive coordinator job at Maryland, Harbaugh went into recruiting mode and landed the young, offensive-minded coach who coached previously under James Franklin at Penn State and Vanderbilt among other stops.

Since the hire, the question has been, will Harbaugh turn the offense over completely to Gattis?

Obviously, we won’t know for sure until the 2019 season starts and we see Michigan football back in action. Spring football is one thing, but what matters is what the Wolverines do when the real bullets starting flying again next September.

Offensively, the Wolverines are loaded with talent and Gattis inherits Shea Patterson, who might be the best quarterback returning in the Big Ten. UM also has a deep stable of wide receivers and tight ends, as well as some up-and-comers at running back. The offensive line is deep too.

However, there are still plenty of questions surrounding this offense. Michigan proved this past season that it can manhandle teams with lesser talent, yet against elite competition, the Wolverines haven’t measured up.

An out-dated approach on offense has been a big reason why and here is a look at five questions surrounding the Wolverines offense heading into 2019.
