Smith adds more depth at DT

I could have put a different player in this spot but if you are looking at the top five guys who will make an impact next season, then I think Smith, who is the No. 101 player overall, deserves to be on the list.

Smith is ranked as the nation’s No. 11 defensive tackle in 2019 and at 6-foot-3, 290 pounds, he plays the part. And while Hinton is certainly going to have a big role inside, Smith might be just as important.

Donovan Jeter is another name to watch along the defensive front, but Michigan is going to need big bodies and that’s something Smith can provide. Another thing that should help Smith is the fact that he is already enrolled.

Smith will get a chance to get acclimated to the system and play in the spring game and if he impresses during that time, he would give himself a leg up going into fall camp.

Either way, just like Hinton, with the need Michigan football has up front, Smith is too big and too talented not to see some game action. The only question is how will they both hold up?
