Gattis will get better usage out of Michigan’s playmakers

Maybe the biggest reason to be excited about the Wolverines offense right now is the new offensive coordinator Gattis, who according to the head coach and Gattis himself, is running the entire offense — the whole show so to speak.

If that winds up being true, it will be great for Michigan football. Gattis was co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Alabama and we all know what kind of offensive year the Crimson Tide had. Gattis has been known for getting receivers to produce and at Michigan, he will have three talented guys to work with in Peoples-Jones, Collins and Black, among others.

With Shea Patterson and those guys at receiver, there is no reason Michigan football should have been 79th in the nation in pass yards. But Harbaugh never opened up the offense and while the unit was effective against most teams, it wasn’t in the biggest games.

Gattis has been brought in to fix that, to make the offense more modern and aggressive. Speed in space has been his mantra on Twitter and as we all know, the Wolverines have playmakers. It’s high time they were used correctly.
