Michigan Basketball: 3 observations from road win over Indiana
Teske and Simpson’s impact sometimes goes beyond the box score
Another thing that makes Michigan basketball so great is it has five really good players and arguably one of the best starting lineups not only in the Big Ten but the country.
Last night against Indiana, Simpson had another stellar performance, scoring 12 points, on 5-of-9 shooting, six rebounds and five assists. He got inside for an early bucket and dished out for a 3-pointer by Poole that helped Michigan jump out to a 17-0 lead.
More than that, Simpson plays as well defensively at the point as anyone. His on-ball defense is superb and so is his ability to limit turnovers. The Wolverines had just nine again at Assembly Hall.
And as far as Teske, his defensive prowess has always been clear. However, his emergence on offense has been incredible. He scored 10 against the Hoosiers which gave him five straight games of reaching double figures. He also knocked down another 3-pointer, which will continue to give defenses something to think about.
Poole, Matthews and Iggy are better scorers, but it’d be hard to say any of them are more valuable to the team than Simpson or Teske.
