Will McCaffrey or Milton make a push for the starting job?

When it comes down to it, Michigan football has a really interesting dynamic going on at quarterback. On one hand, you have Patterson, who started 13 games and at one point, won 10 in a row.

Patterson was efficient, generally took care of the football, completed a high percentage of passes and won three-straight games against top-25 teams including a big road win over Michigan State. Even though it was over the No. 24 team, it might be the best win of the Harbaugh era.

Most of the time, you would be content with an all-conference quarterback returning instead of leaving early for the NFL draft, which Patterson could have done. But some Wolverines fans would like to see either Dylan McCaffrey or Joe Milton get a chance at the starting job. A real chance.

Certainly, McCaffrey and Milton will have a shot to close the gap this spring and that could be their best hope of making a push for the job in the fall. But unless Patterson’s play falls off a cliff or until he lays a dud in another big game, it’s doubtful Harbaugh would make a change.

This is Patterson’s job to lose in 2019 and there is no way that’s happening before the Wolverines even play a game.
