Patterson will win the job without much intrigue

Most Michigan football fans were ecstatic when Patterson decided to return for another season. However, some were hoping that he would move on and give Michigan a chance to play either Dylan McCaffrey or Joe Milton.

Of course, McCaffrey played well in spot duty against both Notre Dame and Wisconsin before hurting his shoulder. Milton was a true freshman this past season. He also has a big arm and a lot of upside and both players should figure into the starting mix someday.

But that day isn’t going to be in 2019. At this point, Patterson is just a better player, at least when it comes to throwing the football. He threw for over 2,600 yards, 22 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He also ran for 273 yards and two touchdowns.

Patterson was especially effective in three straight wins over Wisconsin, Michigan State and Penn State. McCaffrey is going to be a good player and hopefully, both he and Milton stick around and wait their turn, because, in 2019, it will be Patterson’s show once again.
