Michigan Football: Catching up on Wolverines recruiting visits and offers

Michigan football has been busy on the recruiting trail this week, visiting recruits and making offers all over. Here’s an effort to catch you up on what the Wolverines have been doing.

It has been a whirlwind the past few weeks for the Michigan football program. In the last week, the Wolverines have lost two coaches to Ohio State, hired a new offensive coordinator and two other defensive assistants.

Essentially, it seems like every time you look, something is going on with Michigan football. I mean the Wolverines even offered seventh-grade quarterback Isaiah Marshall this week, although if you watch the highlights of the kid throwing, you would offer him too.

While new OC Josh Gattis has been the main topic of conversation in the world of Michigan football this week, especially with more indications that he will install a new system, the real immediate impact he’s made has been on the recruiting trail.

From Julian Fleming, the top wide receiver in 2020 to three-star Devell Washington, numerous Wolverines targets have had good things to say about Gattis. Michigan signee Giles Jackson also expressed his excitement at the move, as well as another three-star Cameron Martinez.

As Brice Marich of 247 sports reports, Karam Wilcoxson, a Florida commit for 2021, also had positive things to say about Gattis. That brings up another point with Gattis, who is helping Michigan attempt to flip multiple Alabama commits such as four-star running back Keilan Robinson (2019) and 2020 four-star wide receiver Javon Baker.

While it’s clear that Gattis is making an impact on the recruiting trail, he hasn’t been the only coach out visiting recruits. One notable visit came Thursday according to Brice Marich as Jim Harbaugh and Don Brown traveled to see Chenshire (Conn) defensive end, Wilfredo Aybar.

Aybar is part of the 2022 class and Michigan football was his first offer. Of course, Aybar, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end is sure to get many more offers, yet the Wolverines may have made some early headway by getting there first.

The offer to Aybar is one of dozens Michigan has made this week. Aybar and Marshall (7th-grade QB) are two of the more notable offers along with guys like Peny Boone, Kalen King, Wilcoxson, Phillip Webb, Tate McKenzie and Anthony Romphf.

In addition to making offers and going out to visit recruits, a few players also announced their intention to make visits to Ann Arbor. One such target is 2020 four-star wide receiver KeAndre Lambert, who will visit Michigan football Feb. 16-17 according to Wolverines Wire.

Wolverines Wire is also reporting a visit Jan. 26 by three-star tight end Theo Johnson, a 2020 prospect from Canada. He was offered by the Wolverines Jan. 9. Three-star offensive lineman Jakob James will also be in Ann Arbor Jan. 25 according to 247 sports.
