Michigan Football: 3 reasons hiring Josh Gattis is a home run
Gattis is a great recruiting hire too
The big worry this week for Michigan football fans has been how the loss of Al Washington and Greg Mattison will impact recruiting and that’s a legitimate fear. The Wolverines still have to replace those guys on defense.
But when it comes to the offensive side of the ball, Gattis is a great hire and it’s about more than his play-calling skills. During both his time at Alabama and Penn State, he was known for locking down some big-time recruits.
What’s even more promising is that when it comes to the 247 coach recruiting rankings, Gattis ranks 23rd, which is now the second-highest ranking among UM assistants, trailing only Chris Partridge.
So even if Gattis wasn’t calling plays and was just filling Jim McElwain’s shoes as the wide receivers coach, it would be a great hire. And in all honesty, if Michigan football fans had the chance to trade Mattison and Washington for Gattis on Monday, they would have done so in a heartbeat. So all in all, this week is a win.
