Michigan Basketball: 3 things we learned from win over Indiana
Michigan basketball won its fourth game over a ranked team this season by double digits after beating Indiana Saturday, here’s what we learned.
After starting slowly against some weaker teams in recent weeks, Michigan basketball did no such thing Sunday against Indiana at the Crisler Center.
Instead, the Wolverines played like a top-five team and never trailed once to Indiana, the No. 21 team in the country in a 74-63 win. The second-ranked Michigan basketball team is now 15-0 on the season and will shoot for 16-0 Thursday at Illinois.
While the fact that Michigan beat Indiana isn’t a huge surprise, it was favored too after all, but it was the Wolverines toughest test in about a month and they passed with flying colors. And UM even rolled to victory without the presence of Isaiah Livers, who is the most important player off the bench.
Brandon Johns, a freshman, stepped up in his place and put forth a solid performance, with eight rebounds and eight points. That could be something to keep an eye on down the stretch. He’s another athletic big guy who can shoot and from the looks of it, hold his own on defense.
All in all, the defense was solid for Michigan in the win but the offense was too. The Wolverines held Indiana to 42 percent from the field, compared to UM shooting exactly 50 percent. Jordan Poole and Charles Matthews each had 18. Juwan Morgan scored 25 for the Hoosiers, who also got 17 from Romeo Langford.
Most importantly, Michigan is 4-0 and kept pace with Michigan State in the Big Ten race and with that in mind, here are the three things we learned from the 74-63 win over the Hoosiers.
