Michigan Football: Top 5 moments from the Wolverines 2018 season
1. Taking back the state of Michigan
In a season full of memorable moments, nothing was better than watching the Wolverines conquer the Spartans in East Lansing as Michigan football beat Michigan State 21-7 to win its third straight game over a ranked opponent.
Harbaugh had beaten the Spartans before but that was when they were 3-9. This one had more of a big-game feel to it and after the pre-game incident and Devin Bush dancing all over the logo with his cleats, the intensity was through the roof.
Michigan dominated the game but it was still tied 7-7 in the third quarter after UM gave away a touchdown on a fumble. How did the Wolverines respond? With the best play of the season, a 79-yard touchdown from Patterson to Peoples-Jones.
Michigan never looked back after that. Mason scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it 21-7 and the defense beat up on the Spartans to seal the deal. When the game was over, Michigan State wound up with 94 yards of total offense.
The Wolverines beat the Spartans at their own game on their home field and the look on Marc Dantonio’s face after the game was priceless. Never again can the Spartans say they are tougher than Michigan football.
Ultimately, the Wolverines season ended in disappointment, but at the very least, they were able to re-establish control of the state of Michigan, as well as establishing themselves as an elite Big Ten program again and even though that’s not enough — it’s at least a step forward.
