Michigan football had a good season but fell short of its biggest goals and along the way, here are the five things we learned about the Wolverines in 2018.

The 2018 season for Michigan football was a mixed bag. There were undoubtedly some great moments but there was also heartbreak, especially at the end of the season.

As we all know, Michigan football is defined more than anything by what it does against Ohio State. That doesn’t mean the rest of the games don’t matter, but any season with a loss to the Buckeyes is hard to call a success.

And since Jim Tressel became the Ohio State head coach in 2001, there hasn’t been a lot of success for the Wolverines. UM has beaten Ohio State only twice since then, winning the game in 2003 and also in 2011. Beyond that, it’s been nightmare after nightmare and despite carrying a 10-game winning streak into the game this year, the Wolverines were embarrassed again.

Then, just like it did the previous two seasons, Michigan followed up a loss in The Game with a loss in a bowl, leaving an extra sour taste in the mouth of everyone heading into the offseason.

While it’s hard to call this past season a success, it’s also hard to label it a failure. Michigan won 10 games, went 8-1 in the Big Ten and reached a major bowl for the only the third time since the retirement of Lloyd Carr. It also tied for the best record in the Big Ten East for the first time.

Certainly, we learned the Wolverines still have a lot of work to do, however, what else did we learn from 2018? On that point we’ve got you covered as we delve into the five most important lessons learned by Michigan football in 2018.
