Don Brown needs to make changes not get fired

I’ll admit that I am as guilty of this as anyone but it was incredibly frustrating to watch Brown and the Wolverines get beat by the same old issues. I understand the aggressive mindset and the man-to-man philosophy, but when it doesn’t work, you have to change.

Brown’s defense got abused against Ohio State and Florida took advantage of many of the same things. The pressure didn’t get home and the Gators had a field day. It’s an issue and it has happened over and over again.

When Brown has faced teams ranked in the top 20 at Michigan, his defenses allow 29 points per game. That’s not elite. The numbers look great against teams that have inferior athletes, but when Michigan plays Ohio State or teams in that same mold, it can’t hang.

Make no mistake, if Brown doesn’t adjust, he will need to go. However, he deserves a chance to adjust. He has done a nice job recruiting and developing talent. Brown makes defense exciting and that has brought players to Michigan. But, he needs to adapt because when it comes to the program’s failures, the defense shoulders as much blame as the offense.
