Michigan Football: 3 keys to beating Florida in the Peach Bowl
Open up the playbook
A lot of fans have been clamoring for the Wolverines to throw the football more and with the talent Michigan possesses at wide receiver and tight end, UM should throw it more.
However, if you look at what Florida does well, the Gators defense ranks much higher statistically against the pass (10th) than against the run (73rd). Florida gives up 169 yards on the ground and 4.4 yards per attempt. Through the air, the Gators gave up 175 yards per game and 15 touchdown passes.
Michigan also ranks 34th in the FBS in terms of rushing yards, while coming in 81st in terms of passing yards. But when you look at Patterson and how he is surrounded by weapons like Donovan Peoples-Jones, Nico Collins, Tarik Black and Zach Gentry, you just know that this offense is capable of throwing on anybody.
The Gators might have a top-10 pass defense but Michigan has more than enough talent to take advantage. Florida will be expecting UM to use a heavy dose of its power-run game. After all, it has done that all season. So if Michigan came out throwing on first down and in predictable run situations, the Wolverines could have a field day.
I don’t care how good Florida’s defense is. With the quarterback and receivers Michigan has, if it throws the ball, good things will happen.
