Michigan Football: Predicting the Wolverines 3 biggest recruiting battles
It seems like Daxton Hill will stay with the Crimson Tide
No matter what happens, you are always going to have kids that leave your recruiting class. Daxton Hill wasn’t the first highly-touted player to do it this cycle and over time, he surely won’t be the last.
But Hill seemed to hurt the Michigan football program for a few reasons. One, it came just a week after the Wolverines were beaten badly by Ohio State, suggesting the loss to the Buckeyes hurt UM in recruiting as much as it did in the race for the College Football Playoff.
The other thing about it is that it made Michigan feel like less of an elite program. Hill was basically sending the message that he didn’t think Michigan was good enough and he was going to go somewhere he could win championships.
Obviously, Hill didn’t say those things, we just inferred it. The reality is that maybe he got spooked about the rumors surrounding Jim Harbaugh and later Don Brown. Alabama coaches may have fed him some dirt about both coaches leaving. That would make it seem like Harbaugh didn’t believe Michigan could win big either and if Hill believed that, you could see why he would bolt.
That’s probably why Harbaugh made the statement about the NFL he did. It opened the door for Hill again, who was rumored this week to be thinking about flipping. Some, according to Isaiah Hole of Wolverines Wire, said the flip could come soon. However, if it doesn’t come before Wednesday, it’s likely not coming at all. So we will see.
