2. Michigan dominates USC 49-0 in the 1948 Rose Bowl

Obviously, not many current Michigan football fans are going to remember the 1948 Wolverines or their dominant 49-0 win over USC, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is still one of the most dominating postseason performances in Michigan history.

Head coach Fritz Crisler directed the Wolverines to a 10-0 record that season as his team averaged 39 points a game compared to the five points per game scored by opponents.

The Wolverines beat three ranked teams on their way to a perfect season, beating 11th-ranked Illinois and ninth-ranked Wisconsin before No. 8 USC in the Rose Bowl. Michigan outscored its opponents by an average of 34 points and had five shutouts, including wins over USC and Ohio State to end the season.

Bump Elliott earned All-American honors after playing both ways and quarterback Bob Chappuis finished second in the Heisman voting after leading the nation’s best offense. Chappuis also threw two touchdown passes as UM routed USC 49-0 and laid claim to its 10th national title.
