Michigan football got a commitment from 4-star offensive tackle Trevor Keegan. What can he bring to the Wolverines and can help the team right away in 2019?

It has been a stressful time when it comes to Michigan football recruiting, especially with the loss of Daxton Hill last weekend.

However, with less than a week before the early signing period begins, Michigan Football landed a key commitment from 4-star offensive tackle Trevor Keegan, the top prospect out of the state of Illinois. Keegan announced his decision Friday night.

Keegan, who turned down scholarship offers from Georgia and Penn State to choose the Wolverines, is the 13th-ranked offensive lineman in 2019 and gives UM an 11th player ranked in the ESPN 300.

Getting Keegan is big for Michigan football for a few different reasons. For one, it helps the Wolverines get some momentum back after Hill de-committed. Momentum matters, especially in recruiting and now UM has some heading into the final days before the early signing period opens.

In terms of what Keegan brings to Michigan, well, for starters, a 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive tackle who is ranked as the fifth-best player in this class for the Wolverines. Also, with his addition, Michigan jumped from 1tth to eighth in the national recruiting rankings according to 247sports.

Keegan also gives the Wolverines an offensive tackle that could potentially push for playing time right away next season. At this point, it seems a safe bet that All-Big Ten tackle Jon Runyan Jr. will be back and starting on the left side. However, with the graduation of Juwann Bushell-Beatty, there will be a starting spot open.

Andrew Stueber and Jalen Mayfield were competing for that spot behind Bushell-Beatty at the end of the season, yet there is no reason why Keegan can’t put himself into the mix too. But even if he doesn’t beat out one of those guys next season, he also seems like a potential backup for Runyan, which could help contend for a spot on the two-deep right away.

All in all, despite the loss of Hill, Michigan football is putting together a really strong recruiting class, especially along the offensive line, which is going to be critical if the Wolverines keep relying heavily on the run game.

Only time will tell how this impacts the rest of the class, but when someone as good as Keegan commits to your program, there is no doubt it has a positive influence on the recruiting trail and hopefully that is the case over the next five days.
