Michigan Basketball: 3 things we learned from win over Purdue
The Wolverines still have room to grow
The crazy thing about this Michigan basketball team is that while it is playing extremely well right now, it still has room to grow.
It would be easy to forget, but Michigan is still very young. Brazdeikis is a freshman, Poole is a sophomore and two other sophomores, Isaiah Livers and Eli Brooks also play key roles, which means four of the top seven guys are underclassmen.
Matthews is a senior, yet his game also continues to grow. He was shooting 19 percent from 3-point range coming into the week and against the Boilers, he was 3-of-6. He was also 2-of-4 against the Tar Heels, making him 5-of-10 or 50 percent.
Michigan has also struggled at the free throw line and before the game Saturday, it was shooting 61.9 percent, ranking 322nd in the NCAA. Yet, in the win, the Wolverines made 11-of-13 shots. The defense was also incredible again, holding the No. 6 offense according to Kenpom to 57 points.
It was a masterful performance. But things can still get better, especially on the offensive end off the floor and that should be a frightening thought for the rest of the Big Ten.
