The 3-point shooting keeps getting better

In the first six games of the season, Michigan basketball didn’t shoot the ball all that well from three and in just one of those contests did it make double-digit 3-pointers.

It sounds like a lot, but it’s something the Wolverines did every few games a year ago. Yet, Poole struggled to start the season from beyond the arc and so has the entire team really. It’s starting to change but even going into the Purdue game, Michigan ranked 155th or lower in 3-pointers made, 3-pointers attempted and 3-point percentage.

In the last two games though, there has been a substantial difference. Against North Carolina, Michigan was 11-of-22 from deep. Saturday in the Big Ten opener, the Wolverines also shot 50 percent, knocking down 13-of-26 3-pointers. Purdue came into the game ranked ninth in 3-point field goals this season, however, the Boilermakers made just seven.

That’s 21 points for Purdue, well short of the 39 points scored by Michigan behind the line. The total difference amounts to 18 points and was a huge reason why UM won the game going away.
